Kids and Teen Bands
Why should kids and teens play music? Playing music improves memory and concentration, has positive effects on mood and wellbeing, and can enhance academic performance. Music is non-competitive; in fact, it rewards collaboration, listening, reacting, and staying open to new ideas. And music keeps us centered in a stressful world. Music’s benefits are amplified even further when we play in groups, and still more when we perform for others, developing teamwork, confidence, and responsibility.
Additionally, music is a language we all share. Especially in an international environment, music can help kids and teens make friends and find their place. People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can make music together, building social and community bonds.
Oh, and don’t forget the most important thing: music ROCKS. It’s FUN. There’s no experience quite like playing a great song with your band. Come and be a part of it at Rock U.!
Kids have all the fun, right? They hang out in school with their friends, not a care in the world, and then they get to play music and get a pat on the back for working hard to develop important life skills. Meanwhile, so-called “grown-ups” are expected to toil in the mines all day and then come home to a pile of dishes and bills! C’mon, isn’t it time to get in on the action?
OK, so that may not really describe most of our lives (or our kids’ lives), but you get the idea. We spend a lot of time as parents and as a society thinking about how to provide our kids with enriching experiences, but adult fun is somehow considered frivolous. But here are some things to consider:
- Playing music is good for your mind, your body and your life. Here is some evidence for this, and here is some more.
- Anyone can play music. And musicians of all abilities can play music together, the Rock U. way.
- You’re never too old to learn to play and enjoy music, or to learn something new even if you’re already an experienced musician.
Rock U. Adult Bands are designed with the beginner to intermediate musician in mind, or for musicians who played when they were younger and want to get back in form. Adult Bands practice every week (click here for details). You can join just one band, or several to get more time in the studio and more songs to learn.
Rock U. is pleased to offer private lessons at our studio in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, or online! Lessons are perfect for Rock U. students who are looking for more than just a band experience, or who want a little extra help learning their parts, or for anyone who is ready to start learning an instrument or improve their playing. Unlike traditional music schools or private teachers, we don’t require a weekly or long-term commitment from our students. We encourage beginners and advanced musicians alike to explore new instruments and techniques with help from an experienced musician and teacher.
Our Rock U. instructors all understand the mission and methods of Rock U., and work closely with the Dean and band instructors to help students improve their fundamentals and learn more advanced techniques. Lessons will often be based on the songs that the student’s band will be performing, but will always be individually tailored to the student’s needs and goals. Rock U. provides the lesson space, and most of the instruments used in the Rock U. band programs (guitar, ukulele, bass, drums, keyboards and more).
Click below to book a lesson! Please tell us your instrument, preferred teacher (if any) and goals for your lesson.
